If you already follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that my photos over the past couple of weeks are all hashtaged #mdadventuresinthephilippines and #itsmorefuninthephilippines. That’s because Taz and I headed to his home country at the beginning of the month, where we spent one week going on lots of adventures with his extended family. This was my second trip to the Philippines (the first being in 2013), and I was excited to be back! On our last visit we were celebrating Taz’s mom’s 60th birthday. This time we were guests at another celebration – a Great Gatsby themed wedding party to celebrate his aunt & uncle’s Silver (25 yr) Anniversary. The party was at the Timberland Sports & Nature Club, which was a perfect location for an outdoor wedding party. Plenty of space, and a pool and promenade that overlooked the skyline of Manila (you can see it in the photo above).
We arrived from New York the day before the wedding, and had just enough time to check-in to the Timberland and catch a little sun by the pool before the rehearsal dinner.
The main event was the next day, and I was excited to see how everyone interpreted the Great Gatsby theme. There was even a recommended “color” – Marsala – which just happens to be the Pantone color of the year for 2015. My dress didn’t necessarily fit the flapper theme, and wasn’t marsala, so I accessorized with a headpiece that was straight from the Gatsby movie, and hoped for the best. Lucky for Taz, I happen to discover a marsala colored skinny tie, suspenders, and matching socks at Topshop, so he fit right in with the theme. What do you think of our final look?
I loved seeing how his family members all had a different interpretation of the theme. Everyone looked amazing! Here’s a few of my favorites, it was difficult to narrow it down…
After the garden wedding (perfectly timed sunset included as the couple kissed), we moved back up to the promenade for dinner and dancing. (Taz and I even participated in a choreographed group dance, fortunately I don’t have documentation of it at the moment!) The little kids sang songs, the dance instructor led us in two-step line dances, special videos were played, and lots of laughs were had – the sky was golden, and there were even fireworks. It was quite the party.
After all the celebrating, we were checking out of the Timberland the very next morning and heading off onto other adventures, I can’t wait to share them with you all in upcoming posts!
