“People also leave presence in a place even when they are no longer there.” ~Andy Goldsworthy
Visiting Mount Pinatubo is at once an adventurous, magical and eerie experience. The eruption of the volcano in 1991 drastically changed the landscape of the region (Luzon) and displaced tens of thousands of residents. Driving through the rocky landscape on the back of a dilapidated old jeep, I felt as if we had slipped back into time, before human kind existed. That is, until we began to see local people on their daily business…walking or driving in rusty tuk-tuks, kids playing and women washing their clothes in the contaminated water, a small child standing by a makeshift tent, waving at us…without other options after the eruption, some were left to adapt to this desolate new environment.
